We are very proud to announce that Encore Travel has been granted the WeConnect WBE (Women’s Business Enterprise) certification! Monique Mardinian, our founder and CEO, has worked for decades to shape the industry into what it is today, all by running the most loved travel company in the world. We feel it’s so important to recognize and uphold the contribution of women in the workplace, and we wear this certification as a badge of honour.
What is a WBE?
For a company to be eligible for certification, it must be owned, controlled, and managed (at least 51%) by one or more women. The company must also be independently run. The company must undergo a rigorous eligibility process in order to receive the certification.
Why is this important?
According to WBE, 50% of Canadian businesses are owned by women. However, only 5% of the companies awarded public and private contracts are owned by women, which points to a huge disparity in equality of opportunity. It’s crucial that woman-led initiatives be given a chance to shine. At Encore, inclusivity and diversity have been ingrained in our day-to-day, creating a tolerant, respectful, and safe work environment for everyone. The WBE certification simply highlights something which has always been a part of us!
What does the WBE certification bring to companies?
Once certified, WBEs become a part of a vast network of potential partners and collaborators. The certification acts as a bridge between the public and private markets, offering training and mentorship opportunities, and providing access to corporate supply chains. To put it briefly, the WBE certification contributes significantly to the growth of woman-owned businesses.
What next?
At Encore, we believe in a better world, and achieving WBE certification is only the beginning. Our next objective is the prestigious B Corp certification, which recognizes businesses who make considerations for the good of the environment and society at large.
