The Hilton Honors app is rolling out a new feature allowing hotel guests to further personalize their stay.

 

The Modern-Day Hilton Hotel Room

The Hilton Honors app already allows hotel guests the freedom to customize their stay according to their specifications. Guests can select their hotel room, order additional amenities to their room before they arrive. Also, using their Digital Key, they can unlock their room from their mobile device.

 

The Future Hilton Hotel Rooms

Now, Hilton has announced that they will be adding another feature to their arsenal, called Connected Room. This is a high-tech hotel room that allows guests to control various aspects of their room using their mobile device.

Guests staying in a Connected Room will be able to control their room’s temperature, window coverings, and lighting through the app. Hotel guests will also be able to use it to save their channel preferences, watch live television and streaming media on their in-room TV.

And Hilton isn’t stopping there!

The hotel chain plans to further develop Connected Room to offer an even more personalized experience. Guests will eventually be able to control their room using voice commands. They will also have the ability to select their own photos and artwork to display in their hotel room.

“Innovation has been in Hilton’s DNA since entrepreneur Conrad Hilton purchased the first Hilton property and pioneered the hospitality industry nearly 100 years ago,” said Christopher Nassetta, Hilton’s President and CEO. “Many innovations later, we are once again setting a new standard for the industry by giving our guests a travel experience where the room knows them, and they know their room.1

 

Getting Ready For Digital

And for those who aren’t keen on the idea of controlling their hotel room’s settings through their mobile device, they will still be able to manually adjust everything in their room. However, Hilton promises the technology will be easy to use, so as not to impede the guest experience.2

“At Hilton, almost all digital products are born out of necessity and shortcomings in the marketplace –and Connected Room is no exception,” said Hilton’s Vice President of Digital Product, Joshua Sloser. “The technology we put in hotel rooms has to be intuitive, simple and quick to pick up because guests typically spend a limited amount of time in their rooms and we want them to spend that time enjoying the experience instead of adapting to new technology.”

Hilton’s Connected Room is currently in beta testing and only available in one Memphis hotel. Hilton expects to deploy in several more hotels throughout the coming weeks. The final launch across the United States will come later this year.2
