June, 2008 Recently, Air Canada has announced a change to its checked baggage policy on flights within Canada, and between Canada and the U.S. including Hawaii effective May 15, 2008 for travel on or after July 15, 2008. With the new policy, clients who purchase Tango and Tango Plus tickets may check one bag at no charge and a second bag for a $25 service fee. Following this decision, the most important American aerial transporters - Continental, Delta, Northwest, United, U.S. Air and American Airlines - have decided to follow in their steps. As of May 5, 2008, they all have planned to charge most of the customers $24 per flight for each additional baggage. The passengers traveling first class, business class, flying with reward points, frequent flyers and military personnel travelling on military duties are exempt of this additional fee. All fees applicable to oversized baggage, overweight or exceeding baggage remain applicable to all. As for Southwest Airlines, it will allow 2 checked pieces of baggage per ticketed customer at no extra cost. Size and weight limitations apply. You may check a third bag for a charge of $25. Sprint Airlines will request a $10 fee if paid on-line or $20 if paid at the airport. On May 21st, American Airlines has announced its initiative in introducing a $15 fee for customers to check their first bag.
